Lead Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program (RRP)
The federal government and the environmental protection agency have enacted the RRP program which goes into effect for installations after April 22, 2010.
These new regulations effect home's built before 1978 the percentages of homes affected are:
- Homes Built 1960 thru 1977 aproximately 23% homes affected
- Homes Built 1940 thru 1959 approximately 66% homes affected
- Homes Built prior to 1940 approximately 86% homes affected
If your home was built prior to 1978 a "lead based paint test" must be performed before any home improvement project can be started. If your home tests positive for lead based paint these new regulations (RRP Program) will increase the cost of your home improvement and your project must be completed by certified firms. Failure to follow these regulations can result in a $37,500 fine to both the contractor and home owner.
New Windows for America has had all their installation crews certified for installations and repairs under the "RRP program". The additional labor and materials required for containment, installation, clean up, and disposal will have to be added to your contract if your home tests positive for lead based paint around windows, or area to be worked on.
